Chief Ray Roberts
Ray Roberts settled in the Priest River area in 2003 after retiring from the Tacoma Washington Police Department. When the City of Priest River determined to reestablish its police force in the spring of 2006, Ray was selected to lead that effort as Chief of Police.
He graduated from Central Washington University with a major in criminal justice. He is also a graduate of the University of Louisville, Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officer Course, and the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission’s (WSCJTC) Command College. He received Executive Level Certification from the WSCJTC.
Chief Roberts began his career in 1972 as a police officer with the Tacoma Washington Police Department and rose through the ranks to detective, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and assistant chief of police. He is experienced with most aspects of law enforcement including patrol, traffic, special operations, investigations, narcotics, vice, training, and internal affairs. He was the Assistant Chief of Police in charge of the Investigations Bureau when he retired.
Chief Roberts has been actively involved in the community and is presently on the board of directors for the Priest River Chamber of Commerce and the Helping Our Home Town Foundation.
