Chief Ray Roberts

Ray Roberts settled in the Priest River area in 2003 after retiring from the Tacoma Washington Police Department. When the City of Priest River determined to reestablish its police force in the spring of 2006, Ray was selected to lead that effort as Chief of Police.

He graduated from Central Washington University with a major in criminal justice. He is also a graduate of the University of Louisville, Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officer Course, and the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission’s (WSCJTC) Command College. He received Executive Level Certification from the WSCJTC.

Chief Roberts began his career in 1972 as a police officer with the Tacoma Washington Police Department and rose through the ranks to detective, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and assistant chief of police. He is experienced with most aspects of law enforcement including patrol, traffic, special operations, investigations, narcotics, vice, training, and internal affairs. He was the Assistant Chief of Police in charge of the Investigations Bureau when he retired.

Chief Roberts has been actively involved in the community and is presently on the board of directors for the Priest River Chamber of Commerce and the Helping Our Home Town Foundation.

Clerk Julianne McLain

Julianne McLain joined the department as our clerk on December 2007. She has a background in the criminal justice system having worked as the Administrative Assistant at the Yakima County Washington Department of Corrections and Legal Secretary with the Bonner County Prosecuting Attorney. Her knowledge of the procedures used within the prosecutor's office and courts has proven extremely valuable to us in providing service to the community. She is also responsible to ensure data entry into the local, state, and federal computerized information systems is completed accurately, This allows us to maintain and report crime data both locally and nationally.

Drew

Officer Drew McLain

Officer Drew McLain joined the Priest River Police Department in February 2007.  He is a graduate of Washington State University and has a wide variety of experience in the criminal justice field.  In Washington State, Officer McLain was certified as a corrections officer, working as a corrections officer in Adams and Yakima Counties.  He was also certified as reserve law enforcement officer in Washington State and worked as a reserve deputy in Whitman County.  After moving to Idaho, he received his certification as a Juvenile Probation Officer by the Idaho Peace Officers Standards and Training Academy (POST) and became a Juvenile Probation Officer for Bonner County.  He presently holds an intermediate police officer certification from the Idaho POST Academy.
Officer McLain is assigned as the department’s evidence technician and training officer.  He is also a certified TAZER instructor.
